Creating Jobs
I have listened to the concerns of local families and have heard heartbreaking
stories of job loss and a sense of hopelessness. There is hope. Now is the time
to grow our economy and fight for the jobs of tomorrow. I believe every person who
wants to work deserves the dignity of a job with a livable wage—I have a vision
for economic health and the ability to bring that vision to reality. I will take
my experience of creating jobs and getting things done to the Legislature to work
on growing our industries in new markets and I will work to foster a healthy business
environment by protecting and promoting jobs for our residents.
Protecting Our Families
As a mother of 5 children and grandmother of 9, the high local crime rate has been
a concern of mine for many years and is the reason I originally ran for Tacoma City
Council. As a member of the Tacoma City Council, I secured funds to fully staff
Tacoma’s Police Department, created a police substation near Wapato Park and
Stewart Park to help deter crime, started a youth violence prevention program,
and funded the TPD’s Gang Unit. I also funded community efforts to combat crime
that has historically affected neighborhood safety such as prostitution and drugs
use. I have made creating a safe community a priority on behalf of our families.
Getting Results
I am the only candidate in this race who has a track record of listening to ideas
in the community and getting results. I supported efforts to develop an economic
base for Tacoma; formed the International Financial Service District, an area in
Tacoma designed to recruit and retain global financial institutions. I established
Economic Gardening, a program that helps to grow our local economy by providing small
businesses with the tools and training that they need to be successful in today’s
marketplace; I worked successfully on planning for the City’s Neighborhood Business
areas to include incentives to grow jobs, allow for more density and thereby
increasing and improving the customer base.
As your Representative, I will listen and I will act and together we will tackle the issues that matter most to our community.
